CPAP Therapy: The Leading Treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Why CPAP?

CPAP therapy helps keep your airway open during the night by gently providing a prescribed stream of air through a mask you wear while you sleep.

What are the benefits of CPAP?

When your airway is open during the night, it helps eliminate the breathing pauses caused by sleep apnea, which in turn can help with your snoring, choking noises – and even your sleep quality! Many patients who regularly use CPAP have said that they feel more rested and alert throughout the day, and less sleepy. Their partners may even sleep better because your snoring isn’t as much of an issue.

A CPAP unit or system comes with a CPAP machine, flexible tubing and a mask. Most machines are small – about the size of a tissue box – lightweight and relatively quiet. You can keep the CPAP machine on your nightstand or at the side of your bed. Flexible tubing connects the CPAP machine to your mask. The tubing is long enough to allow you to move around or turn over in bed.
